Incredible India opens up 137 high Himalayan peaks for

International mountaineers.

Tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. There are plenty of tourist places in India, & the Himalayas have always attracted International Mountaineers.

However, bureaucratic obstacles have always been an issue for foreigners planning to climb or trek in the Himalayas. At present foreigners need permission from the ministry of defence to climb or trek in any of demarcated border regions. All that now is being changed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) opening up 137 peaks located in the mountainous states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Sikkim for the International Tourists to explore.

Himalayan Adventure Tourism
The new proposal from MHA aims to open more mountain peaks for “Trekking, Tourism and Mountaineering” in the Himalayan region and states. The plan has been under consideration for several years now and the govt. Is planning to push this in a major way eyeing the lucrative revenues that adventure tourism can bring.

The list of Peaks in Jammu & Kashmir includes Golap Kangri, Eiger, Cerro Kisthwar, Chomochior, Kailash, Agyasol, Umasi, Tanak and Barmal, among others. Avalanche, Bhrigupanth, Bharigu Parbat, Kalidhang, Chirbas Parbat, Balakun are some of the peaks opened up in Uttarakhand, while the list for Sikkim includes peaks like Forked peak, Gocha peak, Jopono, Kabru North, Kabru Soth and Kabru Dome and Kangchenzunga South. Of these 137 peaks, 51 are in Uttarakhand, 24 in Sikkim, 15 in Jammu and Kashmir, and 47 in Himachal Pradesh.

Precautions have been taken by the MHA and include strict no use of satellite phones by expedition teams unless specific prior approval from the department of telecommunications (DoT). All information gathered, including photos and videos will be shared with local authorities, members will not enter, film or take photographs of any installation without consent from local formations/authorities. The climbing members are required to go through a security clearance for climbing in some high-security areas, without which permits won’t be given. The MHA order stated that the instructions will come into force with immediate effect.
